Jessica grabbed her cup of coffee without so much as a thank you. The woman behind the counter of the small coffee shop had been all welcoming smiles until she had noticed the symbol of Terra Clan on the front of her coat. Jessica hadn't even noticed what clan the woman was in, nor had she cared until she had started being rude. Unfortunately, rudeness and hostility was comman place between Clan Terra and Clan Aer.
Instead of leaving, she chose a booth by a window so she could sit and people watch. It was 7:00 am and Jessica didn't have to be at work until 12:00, so she had a few hours yet to kill. The woman added a healthy amount of sugar to her coffee and opened up her paper, skimming the headlines with a frown.
It appeared that tensions between the clans were getting worse and worse. Sure, there was human interest stories and international stories, even stories about the economy, but it seemed like the majority of news (especially local news) had to deal with disputes and fights between the clans. While Jessica was a proud member of Terra Clan she hated all the violence. She just couldn't understand why no one else seemed to realize it was all stupid. Who cared if some dip stick wanted to worship a stupid air dragon anyway? Or a fire bird? It was all the same to her and nothing to fight about.
Glancing back outside the window Jessica observed that today didn't look like it was going to be any better. For one, the weather looked oppressive, with dark storm clouds looming overhead. For another she could see the scowls individuals on the street gave each other as they passed. It didn't even look like members of the same clans greeted each other with warmth, although in those cases there was a lack of hostility.
Yep, it was looking like it was going to be another glorious monday. Jessica took a sip of the coffee and decided it wasn't bad. She would probably come back despite the woman behind the counter. This was neutral territory after all so there was bound to be some more friendly employees. How could they stay in business otherwise.
