As implied by the descriptions of the clan thus-far, real-world religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, etc are not found in the Elementi universe. Instead the world practices Elementism.
What is Elementism?
A religion based in henotheism, Elementism is the worship of one deity while accepting the existence and worship of other deities. The deities in question are Seiryuu, Suzaku, Byakko and Genbu, all worshiped by their own clans.
In different parts of the world, the beliefs and practices of the community are different. For example, in locations where there is inter-clan stability and peace, clan members may openly thank the deities of other clans during their ceremonies. Particular annual ceremonies include the patronage of all four deities during the celebrations. For other, less stable locations, even uttering the name of another deity than your own (particularly the deity of the opposing element) can be seen as enemy propaganda.
How does this affect the world?
One big change from our world to this world is that common expressions based off of religion or mythology have changed. For example, the phrase 'Oh my God' can be substituted in RP with your character's own deity ('Oh my Byakko'!). Get creative!
For simplicity's sake, mythological creatures such as the Gorgon, Unicorn, Leprechauns, etc. still exist. The stories leading to them might be slightly different though, particularly if it mentions a real-world deity. Feel free to come up with your own clan mythologies if you want to, don't forget to share!
There is also a new -ism, in relation to sexism, racism, ableism, classism, etc. Pugnism is defined as discrimination based on one's clan, element, and/or deity.
What else is there besides Elementism?
Some real-world occurrences such as cult behavior, atheism and agnosticism still occur in the Elementi universe. There will be those who, for various reasons, don't believe in the existence of the four deities or foster the 'no one knows for sure' view. Players are encouraged to explore these possibilities.
Other religions besides Elementism have possibly cropped up over the centuries as well, though they would be underground and/or have small followings. If you have any ideas for these plot points, please contact a mod!
