Other:
Personality: Jessica is a pretty blunt individual. She sees no real reason to beat around the bush or make up white lies to spare people’s feelings. She will tell you exactly like it is, although she is not cruel and will try to keep her nastier opinions to herself unless she is asked. She tends to be a bit pessimistic, which she often expresses with sarcasm. She is fairly outgoing and friendly though, which helps with her job as a tattoo artist. She enjoys meeting new people, though she is wary of members of the other clans if she has not known them for a while.
She’s a bit of an odd ball as far as the members of Terra Clan goes, in that she has an adventurist streak. Like others in Terra Clan, she has a love of the outdoors. However, instead of channeling this into hobbies like gardening, which she finds boring, Jessica prefers to go hiking or try the odd adventure activity, like rock climbing. She’s one of those that is willing to go a bit out of her comfort zone but only if there is the promise of an exciting or interesting new experience. She often uses such experiences to influence her art and make her better able to relate to her customers.
She is a hard worker, and is willing to put forth extra effort to achieve her goals. In fact, her work ethic is one of the things that makes her relate best to other members of Terra Clan. She may not enjoy manual labor or house chores, but she is willing to do what needs to be done. She firmly believes that if you are going to do something, you need to put forth the effort to do it right the first time. Another thing she shares with her clan mates is that she is extremely stubborn. Once she has an idea of how something needs to get done, she doesn’t often change her mind or compromise.
History: Jessica was born and raised in New York. Growing up, her parents were pretty devout members of Terra Clan but Jessica herself had been a little unsure of what to make of the four deities. As she grew older, she noticed that some of the other kids she went to school with, as well as herself, had strange abilities. They had an affinity for the earth, being able to manipulate it in very small amounts. Once Jessica realized this, she understood that everything she had been taught about the deities was true. Naturally, as a member of Terra Clan and a fledgling earth elementalist, Jessica began to truly worship Byakko, the White Tiger.
All throughout high school Jessica practiced her drawing. Art was her favorite subject and she knew she wanted to pursue it as a job. After graduation, she was unsure of what she really wanted to do. Her parents suggested she go to college but after a semester she decided that she was really sick of school. What she really wanted to do was travel. She hadn’t had the opportunity to leave New York much as a kid, except to visit relatives in areas run by the Terra Clan. She decided that she would start working instead and save up the money to travel a bit while she was young.
Initially, she started working at a retail store that sold clothing. It was an ok place to work, but it didn’t pay all that well. Still, Jessica kept at it, taking extra shifts when she could. Then she got lucky. One day she was out with some friends and they ended up going to get tattoos. She had her sketch book with her and happened to show the artist, who owned the shop. As it happened she liked her work and offered her an apprenticeship. A few years of hard work later and she was a full fledged tattoo artist, ready to take on her own customers. She continued working at the shop up until it started being known as primarily a place that catered to Aqua clan. After than she searched around for a place that was more diverse, eventually finding a place that was more open to a mix of different clans. Currently, she still works there, slowly saving money as she enjoys her work.
Roleplay
Other characters: Nope, unless you count Byakko.
Sample: Jessica sat behind the tall counter inside the Elemental Ink Tattoo Studio, watching people walk by on the side walk outside. She didn’t have any scheduled customers for that evening, although a few of the other artists did, so it was pretty much up to her to the other necessary tasks around the shop that evening. She spent few minutes straightening up the waiting area, which was really just a worn out leather couch and a stack of magazines, answered a few phone calls from potential customers, and was now doodling in her sketch pad as she waited for something interesting to happen.
It was actually kind of odd, it being this slow on a Friday evening. Normally by now they would have had a few drunks come in trying to get some ink done, or even a scuffle or two between members of opposing clans. There should have been the usual number of people, unsure of what they wanted thumbing through their books. Today however the shop was suspiciously silent. Jessica couldn’t help but feel uneasy about that, wondering if there was some sort of riot going on down town. It wouldn’t be the first time. In fact, fights between the clans had become more violent as of late, and more frequent.
She looked away from the door and back down and her drawing. It was just something silly, a sketch of her rather plump cat Mr. Whiskers hurling throwing stars and a rather large and angry squid. It probably wouldn’t be the next fad in tattoos but she liked it anyway. She selected a reddish orange pencil and began to color the squid, looking back up at the door. A lone figure stood outside the door, reading the lettering on the sign and it appeared he was deciding whether or not to come in. Jessica smiled in his direction though she couldn’t tell if he was looking at her or just past her into the shop.
